Dr. Walter Dorn
Director
Walter Dorn is Professor of Defence Studies at the Royal Military College (RMC) and the Canadian Forces College (CFC). He teaches officers of rank major to brigadier-general (and equivalents) from Canada and about 30 other countries on peace operations and other international affairs subjects.
As an “operational professor,” he participates in field missions and assists international organizations. He served on the 2014 Expert Panel on Technology and Innovation in UN Peacekeeping.
He also served as UN Technology Innovation Expert and a UN consultant to explore technologies for testing, piloting, employing and training in UN peace operations.
This peacekeeping gaming & simulation project explores new means to train & educate on peace operations based on real-life scenarios. Prototype simulations were played and tested in Dr. Dorn’s courses at the Joint Command and Staff level and the graduate level, to positive feedback.
Dr. Dorn’s two books include Air Power in UN Operations: Wings for Peace (Ashgate, 2014) and Keeping Watch: Monitoring, Technology, and Innovation in UN Peace Operations (UNU Press, 2011).
